Thanks to your reviews of the old model, these glove-mittens are easier to remove (even when wet) and have a brushed fleece lining that enhances the feeling of warmth.
These warm and windproof glove-mittens are for backpacking comfortably in cold and windy weather, while retaining very good dexterity.
What improvements have been made compared to the old model? (the old model corresponds to the code 8396265)
The Trek 500 glove-mittens have been improved over the years based on all the customer reviews. Thanks for sharing!
Here are the points that we worked on for this new winter 2020 collection:
– it is now easier to get the mittens on/off, even when wet.
– The cozy brushed fleece makes the inside of the mittens feel warmer! A pleasure to get your mittens back on!
How is usage temperature measured?
All our gloves are laboratory-tested on a thermal hand. The minimum temperatures for use (recommended and limit) are the result of a study carried out with a test panel of 23 hikers exposed to temperatures ranging from 41ยฐF to -4ยฐF and 6 mph winds. These temperatures are only valid in walking conditions.
The Trek 500 mittens have a warmth rating of 3 out of 5.
Recommended temperature: 18ยฐF |
Limit temperature: 7ยฐF
How to properly protect your hands from the cold
By applying the layering principle, you can optimize the insulation of your hands. Consequently, by wearing liner gloves in addition to gloves, you create several air gaps around your hands, which provide effective insulation from the cold. For this to work properly, your gloves must be big enough not to compress your fingers and allow a good blood flow.
What does a windproof glove provide?
These glove-mittens have a 100% windproof membrane, which is ideal for keeping warm, even in strong winds. Did you know that the wind makes you feel colder? With an outdoor temperature of 32ยฐF and a 12 mph wind, the perceived temperature will be 14ยฐF. The windproof components reduce the wind chill resulting from the cooling effect of the wind or apparent wind generated by the sporting activity.
Ease of use of the glove
A very well equipped fingerless glove:
– easy to get on using the wrist strap that just needs to be pulled with the opposite hand
– strap on the middle and ring fingers to facilitate the removal of the mittens
– magnet on the back of the hand to keep the mitten part open
– pairing buckle to link your gloves during transport or storage
How to keep your hands warm with the right clothing
When active, the body generates heat which is preserved thanks to the thermal insulation of your clothing. If the clothing is inadequate, your body cools and the blood flow to the hands and feet drops in order to keep your upper body warm. Your clothing can therefore play a role in keeping your hands warm
What is the dexterity of a glove?
The dexterity of a glove is its ability to handle objects. Our gloves have been scored in the laboratory on a scale of 1 to 5. The closer the glove’s dexterity is to 5, the more the glove can handle objects in the same way as the bare hand. In particular, we tested how easy it is to get a jacket on and open it with the open mittens.
The dexterity of these mittens was given a rating of 2 when the mittens are in place, and 5 when the mittens are removed.
Has the rain gotten inside your mittens?
If this happens, then dry them in a dry place, but avoid placing them on a heat source. This could damage the fiber and they could lose their shape!
