What is softshell?

A warm, protective jacket that protects you from the wind and short light rain or snow showers (approx. 30 mins).
The fabric used is a combination of 3 materials: a breathable and windproof microporous membrane sandwiched between the water-repellent outer layer and the inner one made from warm, comfortable fleece.

Thermal comfort and windproof

The wind makes you feel considerably colder.
Where the outside temperature is 32°F, with winds of 12.5 mph, the temperature feels like 14°F.
“Windproof” components fight the uncomfortable effects associated with this “freezing effect”. Forming a barrier against the wind, they effectively reduce heat loss.

Breathability

In areas that are sensitive to wind (front and sleeves) the fabric has a windproof membrane; breathability is therefore lower.
Performance is 2,839 g/m2/24 hrs (according to standard JIS 1099 A).

To improve breathability on the back and sides, the fabric does not have a membrane.
Performance is 3,219 g/m2/24 hrs (according to standard JIS 1099 A).

Water repellent property of component (not to be confused with waterproofing)

Water-repellent property is the capacity of water to run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from soaking up water and keeps it lightweight and breathable.

Care Instructions

Wash at 104°F. Do not use fabric softener, tumble dry, or iron.

Abrasion resistant : Fabric with tight weave so you can wear a backpack without any risk of tearing.

Windproof : Windproof membrane on the bust and arm areas.

Warmth : Comfortable from 55°F to 50°F worn as a 2nd layer. Fleece brushed on the inside

Breathability : Side and back panels made of non-membraned fabric.

Water repellent : Treated surface to prevent water from seeping into the fabric.
