Thermal comfort and wind-proofing

The wind makes the perceived temperature drop considerably.
With an outside temperature of 32°F and 12 mph winds, the perceived temperature is 14°F.
The so-called “windproof” components cancel out this uncomfortable wind chill. By creating a barrier against the wind, they are very good at reducing heat loss.

Water-repellent property of the component (not to be confused with the waterproofing)

A fabric is water-repellent when it allows water to slide over its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from swelling and keeps it lightweight and warm. A fabric is made water-repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment’s lifetime (recommended after every wash). We sell products for this purpose in our stores. All the Quechua Softshell items have received a water-repellent treatment.
