A lightweight and breathable jacket that is more respectful of the environment.
Its membrane protects you from the rain and wind in the mountains.
At the foot of Mont Blanc, our team of enthusiasts designed this waterproof jacket for regular hikes and protecting you from storms in the mountains.
Cut
Fitted cut to fully benefit from the stretch component. The raglan sleeves enable great stretch and frees your movement more when hiking.
A warm layer, such as a fleece or light padded jacket, can be worn underneath.
Hood
Adjustable height with an elastic cord and tightening toggle.
Integrated semi-rigid visor to provide high level protection.
The small detail that makes the difference: a triangular opening on the side of the hood for better visibility to the sides.
Main component
3-layer component with membrane
MEMBRANE
The waterproofing of a product depends on 2 main criteria: its component and design.
This product is designed with a membrane.
The membrane is a kind of very thin plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the component waterproof while remaining breathable.
It is flexible, lightweight, and breathable.
LAYER DESIGN
3-layer design: The membrane is glued between the outer and inner fabric. We use it for durable and high performance jackets
COMPONENT
WATERPROOFING
To guarantee the waterproofing level of a component, we carry out laboratory tests. We measure a fabric’s resistance to a column of water expressed in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric.
A component with a waterproof rating of 15,000 mm can therefore withstand the pressure exerted by a 15,000 mm column of water.
This is also equivalent to 15,000 Schmerbers.
JACKET
WATERPROOFING
To check the waterproofing of the jacket, we carry out laboratory tests to simulate rainy weather.
This garment has been validated in a shower test under 100 L/sqm/h of water for 3 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a mountain storm.
BREATHABILITY
Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET).
This is its capacity to let water vapor generated by the body during physical activity escape and therefore avoid water accumulating on the skin.
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.
RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric
RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: not very breathable fabric
This product was assessed at 6 RET
HOW TO REACTIVATE WATER REPELLENCY
A fabric is water-repellent when it allows water slide over its surface without seeping in. The fabric does not soak up water and therefore remains lightweight and breathable. The water-repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be renewed during the lifetime of the garment. The water-repellent property can be reactivated by putting the jacket in the tumble dryer for 10 minutes on low heat. You can also use the re-waterproofing spray (ref 855490)
PRODUCT DESIGN: OUR EXPERTISE
Our Quechua global design center is based in Passy, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in Haute Savoie.
This location makes it a real meeting place for our teams (designers, product managers, engineers, etc.) and outdoor sports enthusiasts.
A great asset for designing our hiking products and providing you with all our expertise.
OUR ENVIRONMENTAL APPROACH
Because we are aware that we must act to preserve our playground, Quechua is committed to limiting the environmental impact of its products. This jacket is designed to reduce its environmental impact by optimizing consumption and weight of the main component. We have reduced the CO2 impact by 31% compared to the previous product.
