At the foot of the Mont-Blanc, our team of hikers eco-designed this low-cost warm and breathable fleece for occasional hiking in the mountains.

Fleece component: Insulation provided by air

The fleece component is designed to trap air in the space formed by its texture; this air acts as a natural insulator, keeping the body warm. It is the brushing of the knit fabric that traps the air.
This component has been tested in the laboratory for a comfort temperature ranging from 45 to 50°F without an additional jacket.

Durability warranty of 2 years

We test the aging of our hiking fleeces to guarantee their durability. We guarantee:
– the backpack’s resistance to abrasion and arm movements in order to delay pilling, which is a feature of this material.
– the solidity of the seams
– the resistance of the fleece material after 3 washes (dimensional stability)
– color-fastness after washing, against UV rays, or in contact with perspiration.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY FOR ECO-DESIGN

At Decathlon, we know that our production and distribution activities have a big impact on the environment. That’s why we must take action. Not everything is perfect, but by using recycled polyester to make the material of this fleece, no new oil-based resources are used. The waste is recycled into resources that can be used again. At the same time, we are working on other measures to further reduce our carbon footprint.

DOPE-DYEING

Bulk dyeing or “dope-dyeing” is the addition of pigments when manufacturing the textile yarn. This technique reduces the environmental impact compared to a conventional dyeing process, which adds the pigments once the threads have been formed into a fabric and requires a lot of water, polluting it in the process.
The black MH100 fleece uses this new dyeing process and we are currently working on ways of replicating this for the other color versions.

A score for comparing the products’ environmental impact

The environmental impact of the product is calculated based on its entire lifecycle and using different indicators. An overall score from A to E is given to help you easily identify the most eco-friendly products by comparing products of the same type (T-shirts, pants, backpacks, etc.)
