These children’s hiking shoes are ideal for mountain footpaths thanks to the sole with very good grip, the reinforced upper and the waterproof membrane.
1-day hikes in all weather conditions and on challenging trails.
Sole grip
The sole design that has been the subject of extensive research in our laboratories, combined with a specific rubber composition to optimize grip and traction. Because all needs are different, we always search for the best compromise for muddy and dry terrain.
Waterproofing test
Having been tested in the laboratory and in use, the boots equipped with NOVADRYยฎ provide optimal waterproofing and breathability. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Then they are placed on a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water to check that the inside of the shoe remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing, i.e. 2,000 flexes (about 2 hours of walking), 4,000 flexes (about 4 hours of walking) and 8,000 flexes (about 8 hours of walking). Naturally, after this test or in use, the waterproofing of the boot will be restored when it is dry again. The junior Forclaz 500 high shoes are waterproof to 4,000 flexes.
Making waterproofing last longer
The waterproofing of shoes is often compromised because water gets in at the collar of the shoe. To keep your feet dry for longer, it is therefore advisable to use a waterproof gaiter or mini-gaiter that will prevent not only water from getting inside through the top, but also pebbles, sand, etc. It is advisable to use a waterproof spray several times a year. This restores the original water-repellent properties and prevents staining.
Purchase advice
Let your child try on both boots, standing up, with the socks used for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check the following 2 areas of comfort: the heel and the front of the foot when going downhill. There should be no compression points when fitting. Do not hesitate to have your child walk in the shop. Gradually increase the amount of time they wear the shoes during the first walks to break the shoes in.
Which size should you choose?
For hiking, do not hesitate to choose 1 size above your usual size to ensure optimal comfort when going downhill and prevent your toes from hitting the front of the shoe. Advice: keep your toenails short and, before descending, check that your lacing prevents your foot from sliding forward inside the shoe.
Laboratory test
Further laboratory tests are also conducted to validate the following: tearing of eyelets and straps, gluing, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of sole and upper components, accelerated aging.
Lab tests
Further laboratory tests were conducted to test the following elements: attachment of eyelets and webbing, assembly, toxicology, UV resistance, sole and upper component abrasion, accelerated ageing.
