Gear up with waterproof hiking shoes! They are essential for walking in all weather conditions thanks to their integrated cushioning and protective toe-guard.
for hiking in the mountains by day, in all weather, on technical trails. For regular use.
CrossContact sole
The design of the sole is the result of a lengthy research and development process conducted in our laboratories, combined with a specific rubber formulation offering the best compromise between grip and traction. Given that the requirements are not the same, we automatically look for the best compromise for walking on both soft and dry terrain.
Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproof test: these shoes, which have been tested in the laboratory and the field, have a breathable, waterproof membrane for optimum protection in the rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while the air pressure inside the shoe is increased to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. They are half immersed and then placed on a mechanical arm that simulates walking: we then check that the inside of the shoe remains perfectly dry.
Level of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2,000 flexes (about 2 hours of walking), 4,000 flexes (about 4 hours of walking) and 8,000 flexes (about 8 hours of walking). Naturally, after this test or during use, the shoe regains its original waterproof properties once dry. The Forclaz 100 waterproof shoe has passed the waterproofing test involving 4000 flexes.
Prolonging the waterproof properties
A shoe’s level of waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. To keep your feet dry for longer, the waterproof gaiters or mini-gaiters are advisable for protecting the top part of your shoes and preventing water as well as pebbles, sand, etc. from getting inside. To restore the original water repellent properties and prevent staining the outer surface of the fabric, use a waterproof spray several times per year.
Buying tips
Try on both shoes, while standing upright, with the socks you would wear for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check the following two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot when walking downhill. There should be no pressure points when trying them on. Feel free to walk around the store. Gradually wear in your shoes over the course of a few hikes so that they conform to your feet.
What shoe size should I choose?
For hiking use, don’t hesitate to try on a pair that is one size above your usual shoe size to make sure that they are as comfortable as possible when going downhill and avoid any contact between your toes and the front of the shoe. Recommendation: before any descent, make sure that your toe nails are clipped and that your laces are tightened so that your feet cannot slide forwards in the shoe.
Field test
All our shoes are tested in real-life conditions by testers who are representative of the target customer, to ensure that they fit properly and are comfortable in use. Our Mission Tests bring together the product manager with people not connected with Quechua to test, develop and approve the products.
Laboratory test
Other laboratory tests are also conducted to approve the quality of the following components: tearing resistance of the eyelets and straps, resistance of adhesives, toxicology, UV resistance, resistance to abrasion of the outsole and upper components, accelerated ageing.
