SNOWCONTACT Technology
SNOWCONTACT soles are tested and certified in the laboratory and in the field, to ensure excellent grip and maximum traction on all types of winter terrain (snow and ice). They are made using a special material and have a contact area designed to ensure excellent grip on slippery ground. Optimised studs offer maximum traction on gradients.
Footwear waterproofing test
The footwear is laboratory and field tested equipped with membrane to ensure optimal waterproofing and breathability. These models are first immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied: to check no bubbles form on the shoe’s surface. They are then half immersed and placed on a mechanical arm that simulates walking. We then check that the inside of the shoe remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing
In the waterproofing tests, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (approx. 4 km of walking), 4000 flexes (approx. 8 km of walking) and 8000 flexes (approx. 16 km of walking). After this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once the product is dry.
Boot waterproofness
Forclaz 500 Warm boots remain waterproof after 8000 flexes.
Field tests
All our boots are tested for wearing comfort and comfort in use by users who are representative of the target market, under the same conditions as those that will be experienced in real-life use. Moreover, our “Missions Tests” put the product manager in contact with people who are not affiliated with Quechua to test, develop and validate the products.
Measuring the boots’ thermal insulation
Previously, there was no way of accurately identifying the temperature threshold at which your boots would protect you from the cold. This is now possible: the temperature limits for use are shown on your Quechua boots. By testing how cold people feel in the field and in the lab with a panel of customers, we measure the thermal insulation of our footwear. We take into account the fact that men and women feel the cold differently.
Lab tests
Laboratory tests were conducted to test the following elements: torn eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of the sole and the components of the upper, and accelerated ageing.
